Body of Mine

You don’t have to be perfect

You don’t have to twist and turn yourself into that which you are not

Only, only listen to the soul of your body

And love what it loves

Give to is as you would a new born babe

Eager for life

With its wide-eyed wonder

Imbued with the sensations you have grown to ignore

Invite it to sing and dance

Casting off fear to wild abandon

And the frenzied bliss of sweat and breath

Marvel in the mystery of its undying efforts

To repair your transgressions

And the transgressions of others

This, your refuge from the pounding world

And though its once supple youthfulness now eludes

Call it beautiful

And precious

And rare

Clench no more the anger of your abuser

And his calcified blows

So that when tenderness meets skin

Your soul sighs

Then rejoices
